Our 4th year in Chicago was a huge success! Joe’s on Weed was packed with over 1,000 racers!

Racers sprinted throughout the city, stopping in Wicker Park, Old Town and West Loop. The day’s challenges included creative wedding proposals at Smitten Boutique, pancake flipping at Elly’s Pancakes and The Other Guys Nerf Gun Challenge at The Boring Store! Racers also sampled the custom Great Urban Race flavor at iCream and left their colorful handprint on the GUR canvas at Skinner Park.

Team Vati became our champions with an impressive time of 2:04, followed closely by The Gang Runs a Race who came in just seconds after at 2:04 as well! Our third place team was ChurchStreetRevival with a time of 2:05. The special prize for first place included four VIP red carpet tickets to the Chicago premiere of The Other Guys. The top three also received signed posters by Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg and a Summer of Sony prize pack!

A big congratulations to our St. Jude Challenge winners AND fundraising winners So THAT’s How It Is In Their Family. They raised $5,756! And a big thanks to all of our St. Jude Heroes who raised an amazing $14,400!

Our top Family Team M-A-L-T-E came in with a staggering time of 2:33! The stage was crowded with more than 30 teams competing for the costume contest. It was a close call and came down to Wrestlemaniacs and Lindsay & Her Attorney. The crowd made their favorite known and elected Lindsay & Her Attorney as Best Costume winners! They received their sashes, trophy and Summer of Sony prize packs with pride.

Thanks to all of our volunteers, St. Jude, Special Olympics Illinois and Joe’s on Weed. Special thank you to the Burba family who shared their St. Jude story and reminded all of us about the important work St. Jude does! The GUR Crew is already preparing fun and exciting ideas for Chicago 2011—we can’t wait to see you all next year for our exciting 5th anniversary race!
