Race Day Recap
Congratulations to all Masterminds in Houston who conquered the 2014 Great Urban Race! All participants started their adventure at Celtic Gardens and then went on to discover the hidden clues in their city. Masterminds completed a variety of unique activities that required quick thinking, problem-solving, and physical tenacity!
Throughout the day our participants went to Junction Bar and Grill where they had to drop a mushroom from the top deck into their partner’s mouth! Masterminds also went marble bowling at Lucky Strike and put their balancing skills to the test at Katz Deli where they were required to balance 5 dice on a popsicle stick.
We’d like to give big high-fives to our first, second, and third place teams who all receive a free entry to the 2014 National Championship in Vancouver on August 9 where they’ll have the chance to compete for $10,000 in cash prizes. In first place, we had Dynamic Health Racing finishing in 1:30! We Run This Town finished in second with a time of 1:31 and The Avenging Nads grabbed the third place spot at 1:35.
Thanks to all of the teams who dressed up and brought some added spirit to the day. A special shout out goes to The Bad Basses for winning the costume contest! We would also like to thank our St. Jude volunteers, all of our clue locations, and of course all of our amazing Masterminds! The GUR Crew had such an enjoyable time and we hope to see you again later this year in Vancouver.
Team Name: Dynamic Health Racing
How many times have you participated in Great Urban Race? Are you a past champion?
Three, but not a National Championship.
When you open your clue sheet, what is your first step?
Look for clues we know right away!
Did you use public transportation during the race?
Yes. It saved us ½ mile of running north, which always seems uphill.
How did you choose your team?
Based on genetics, he’s my pops.
Did anything set you back today?
I’m a little hot headed when we communicate.
What was your favorite challenge?
Dropping the mushroom at Junction Bar & Grill because we had to work as a team.
Never give up, never surrender, Goonies never say die!
What role do each of you play on the team?
I yell, he yells back.
Any words of wisdom to future racers?
Don’t race with your kids.
