Race Day Recap

Congratulations to all Masterminds in Boston who conquered the 2014 Great Urban Race! All participants started their adventure at The Kinsale and then went on to discover the hidden clues in their city. Masterminds completed a variety of unique activities that required quick thinking, problem-solving, and physical tenacity!

Throughout the day our participants went to Kings where they had to lasso bowling pins and McGreevy’s where they had to bounce pencils into a pint glass. Also, who could forget catching marshmallows in their mouth like the Blue Man Group and the storm in a wine glass challenge at Bacco’s Wine & Cheese?

We’d like to give big high-fives to our first, second, and third place teams who all receive a free entry to the 2014 National Championship in Vancouver on August 9 where they’ll have the chance to compete for $10,000 in cash prizes. In first place, we had Zach Attack finishing in 1:42:01! All About Group Travel finished in second with a time of 1:42:02 and Dargle grabbed the third place spot at 1:52:00.

Thanks to all of the teams who dressed up and brought some added spirit to the day. A special shout out goes to Conn Artists for winning the costume contest! We would also like to thank our St. Jude volunteers, all of our clue locations, and of course all of our amazing Masterminds! The GUR Crew had such an enjoyable time and we hope to see you again later this year in Vancouver.

Team Name: The Zach Attack

How many times have you participated in Great Urban Race?  Are you a past champion?

Justin has competed in eight races, and this was Woo’s third race.

When you open your clue sheet, what is your first step?

Take a picture of it.

Did you use public transportation during the race?

Yes.  They took it from park Street to the Hines Convention Center

Did you utilize ground support? (phone-a-friend) If yes, how did you choose your team?

Yes.  Not Josh Flanagan.

Did anything set you back today?

Foolishly ignoring Tic Tac Toe!

What was your favorite challenge?

They were all good! The Charles Playhouse/marshmallow tossing was Woo’s favorite, and the pencil quarters was Justin’s favorite.

What’s your team motto/theme song?

It’s all about having fun. (Maniacal laughter)

What role do each of you play on the team?

Woo just runs.  Justin does everything else that you could possibly imagine.

Any words of wisdom to future racers?

“Believe in yourself and your goals.  We’re all in this together.”
