Race Day Recap

Congratulations to all participants in Houston who made the 2013 Great Urban Race such an awesome success! The beautiful weather made for a perfect day of adventure. All participants started the race at Celtic Gardens and went on to explore the streets of Houston. Masterminds completed a variety of unique activities that required patience, brains and physical strength!

Some of our favorite clues at this event included pizza tossing at Frank’s Pizza and practicing yoga at Yoga One Studios. We were very impressed by everyone’s karaoke abilities at MKT Bar when participants had to sing single ladies. Also, who could forget the hot sauce sniffing at Tacos a Go Go?

A special thanks to everyone who donated to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Ronald McDonald House Houston, your efforts are truly appreciated! We’d also like to thank all of the St. Jude volunteers. We’d like to give you all a big high-five for supporting such an amazing cause!

We would also like to extend a special congratulations to our first, second and third place teams who all receive a free entry to the 2013 Championship Race in Puerto Rico and the chance to compete for $10,000 in cash prizes! In first place, Flight Risk came dashing through the finish line with a time of 1:30! The BFRs weren’t far behind, crossing the finish line at 1:34. Finishing close behind were the Muffin Tops, grabbing third place with a time of 1:53. Congratulations to our Top Three Teams!

The costumes in Houston did not disappoint. After an intense clap-off between several awesome costumes, it was team Let’s Get Physical that won the crowd over! Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.

Thank you again to our St. Jude volunteers and all of our clue locations and of course, all of our phenomenal participants. The GUR Crew had an incredible time and we look forward to seeing you again next year, thanks Toronto!
