Race Day Recap
Congratulations to all participants in Denver who came out for another awesome Great Urban
Race! The beautiful weather made for an awesome day of adventure. All participants started the day off at Jackson’s and went on to explore the hidden gems of Denver! Masterminds completed a variety of unique activities that required quick thinking, problem solving, and physical tenacity!
Throughout the day our participants went white water kayaking and put their artistic abilities to the test by painting on ceramic. Participants really had to think when solving the murder mystery clue to unlock a padlock and who could forget the Bacardi challenge!
Congratulations go out to our first, second, and third place teams who all receive a free entry to the 2013 Championship Race in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the chance to compete for $10,000 in cash prizes! In first place, we had The Nads finishing in 1:55! No HGH Testing for This, Right? finished second with a time of 2:21 and Rapid Sequence grabbed the third place spot at 3:03!
Well-deserved rounds of applause were given to some great costumes at Great Urban Race Denver, but it was Coors Guy who won the crowd over. Thanks to all the teams who brought some added spirit to the day!
Thanks to our St. Jude volunteers, all of our clue locations and of course all of our amazing participants. The GUR crew had an excellent time and we look forward to seeing you again, Denver!
With The Nads
How many times have you participated in Great Urban Race? Are you a past champion?
Maybe six times? And yes.
When you open your clue sheet, what is your first step?
Panic, take a picture, then go to the farthest clue we can.
Did you use public transportation during the race?
No; Josh had “an incident” that got him banned from RTD.
Did you utilize ground support? If yes, how did you choose your team?
No one on the ground, just phone-a-friends. We chose our long-term friends, another team the Narwhals, and our wives.
Did anything set you back today?
We had a brain fart at Victoriana Jewelry, so that was a speed bump
What was your favorite challenge?
Crawfish origami flip cup. Go LSU!
What’s your team motto/ theme song?
Motto: Dominate. Theme song: “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now” by Jefferson Starship
What role do each of you play on the team?
Andy: “My bag carries all items, and we use my camera. I’m not sure why Josh is even on the team.”
Any words of wisdom for the future racers?
Body Glide everything, or nothing.
