What's Up in 2013

Here's the skinny:

1. Great Urban Race is a wild urban adventure.

Teams solve twelve clues and participate in exciting mental and physical challenges while discovering their city and racing for cash prizes.

2. Teams consist of 2-4 participants

Round up your friends, get your thinking caps on and prepare for a team event you won't soon forget. The more the merrier!

2. Feature clue

Continuing the 2012 excitement, each race in 2013 will feature one extreme clue guaranteed to challenge teams in ways they never thought possible. So leave your inhibitions behind and bring your sense of adventure because this clue will knock your socks off!

3. Smart phones

GUR participants have always been smart, (we don't call you Masterminds for nothing) so their phones have to be too. As technology grows and changes, clues will follow suit. Whether it's a social media update, a QR code or a FourSquare check-in, technology can play a role in the race so be prepared.

4. What’s included

The good news—the Great Urban Race crew likes to reward you for your hard work! In addition to the already fantastic t-shirt and finisher's medal each participant will receive, every racer 21 years or older will receive a free beer compliments of the GUR crew as well as water, bananas, and granola bars.

5. Why you should bring your A-Game

The top 25 qualifying teams receive an invitation to our National Championship Race, and the top three teams will receive cash prizes and free entry to the National Championship.
First Place: $300
Second Place: $200
Third Place: $100
Our National Champions bring home $10,000!

6. Championship Meets Vacation

In 2013 we are taking our Masterminds to a new and exciting location for the 2013 Championship—Puerto Rico! You don't need a passport, but you will need sunscreen. Qualify in your local city (or travel to a new one) because this will be an adventure you won't want to miss!

7. Not in the best shape?

Public transit is allowed on this adventure.  While many teams choose to run, it’s often strategic to incorporate your local public transportation into the route.

8. What to bring

As a team, it’s smart to have the following
-Bag to hold your goodies
-Smart phone (and charger)
-Digital Camera
-Pen(s) to solve the clues and map out your route
-A few dollars cash—you may want to purchase a public transit pass and some clues may require purchasing a small item for charity
-A signed waiver. Great Urban Race isn’t inherently dangerous, but we’ll have you sign a waiver anyway – just in case. These will be available at packet pick-up on the day of the race. Or if you’d prefer to save some time, you can download and print it right here.
